The extensive use of light building materials in the aviation industry
The extensive use of light building materials in the aviation industry is a huge challenge for tool makers. Carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) and other materials are difficult to process. Therefore, cutting tools and requirements for macroscopical and micro design are very high. In this paper, two methods to improve the CFRP milling process are proposed. One of the methods is to optimize the groove grinding process by using the innovative grinding wheel specification and its influence on cutting tool characteristics. Another method involves the development of a ceramic cutter used for CFRP processing. The effects of different process and tool related parameters on the working results and process parameters are introduced.
Industrial sector's continuous understanding of sustainable development is leading to optimization and improvement of existing technology systems in multiple fields, in order to get more resource protection solutions. The usual method, especially for a dynamic system, is to seek a lower part weight. In addition to constructive measures, we can usually achieve further weight reduction by using innovative materials. The innovative materials have comparable or even better mechanical properties compared with conventional materials, and at the same time have lower density.
